Desert blog

You may have noticed that there was no blog posted last week.

I am currently in the heart of Australia, spending a few weeks crossing the Simpson Desert, with its thousand sand dunes of brilliant red , contrasting with the vast electric blue sky.

Recent rains have spread a carpet of flowers to the distant horizon. And at night, we sleep under the vast spread of the Milky Way.

Everyone needs space and time to get away from the daily grind and get into a natural rhythm, to allow for enough rest to restore energy levels and vitality.

The desert is a beautiful place to see how life can continue even in this most arid zone. Given a bit of help, it can truly flourish.

Just as I have been inspired by my patients’ journeys to recovery, seeing how life can carry on and even flourish in this harshest of environments is remarkable.

This tree would have seemed dead in the last drought. But it kept a reserve deep in its roots and when the opportunity came with the rains, it sprang back to life.
